In 1847, the now world-famous Cartier jewelry company was founded in Paris by Louis-François Cartier, whose son Alfred took over in 1874. In 1899, Alfred’s sons—Louis, Pierre, and Jacques—took the reins and established Cartier as a worldwide luxury brand name. Not long after Pierre, the last of Louis-Francois’s three grandsons, died, the great grandchildren sold the businesses in New York, London, and Paris. Today, the company is a multinational organization and part of the Richemont Group, but the family name still means prestige in the jewelry industry and that means we’re proud to have a selection of Cartier items at Vienna Jewelry on Maple Ave.
Cartier is well known for both jewelry and watches, and has a long history of servicing celebrities and royalty; indeed, beginning with Edward VII of England, coronation tiaras became a regular commission for the company. For the 1970 Oscars, Elizabeth Taylor wore a 69-carat diamond necklace, designed by Cartier, and, in 2011, Cartier was still red-carpet hot when Amy Adams showed up in a Cartier platinum and diamond necklace with a carved 33.24-carat emerald.
While you can shop for Cartier at more than 200 of their stores in 125 countries, don’t forget that pawn shops in Vienna, VA are a great source for finding unique Cartier items.
